Tricky weather played with our sunrise engagement session that was a few days before the wedding day. A little downpour never hurt anyone – but it doesn’t make for the best sunrise shots. However, Emily and Matt’s character shone through having filed it under the ‘oh well’ category.
Fast forward to the actual day – gorgeous, hot, sunny… not a rain cloud to be seen. We almost felt like we were back in Maui for the day, effortless and sumptuous – Emily, you were the vision of perfection, straight out of an issue of “Tahitian Bride’. I loved your shoes, I loved your dress, I loved your earrings and I LOVED LOVED LOVED your flower crown!! More brides need to wear them! I had a bit of a love affair with it throughout the day… sorry!
Anyway, we met the ladies they were getting prettied up and Rob met the men doing what men do – waiting until the last possible minute to dress – usually because it’s too hot to put extra ” stuff ” on. In the moments before a groom actually puts on his suit and tie though are some of the most special. Catching a glimpse into what friendships and brotherhoods are made of and seeing the sweet nervous energy before he says ‘I do” to his beautiful bride are always so genuine and result in some of our favourite moments.
The ceremony was sweet and relaxed – one of their friends performed it so it had a very personal element just for them. Bowing to each other and to their parents to honour one another was definitely a cool moment and one that’s steeped in tradition. Right after they said ” we do” we hit the beach for a few romantic shots. They were so joyful in these first few moments it was adorable to watch. Literally skipping down the beach. Can I just say how much I love LOVE!? We also had a little visit from who we now affectionately call ‘The wedding pup” as he has been in all 5 of our last weddings/sessions. Twice with our own Emily… who also has a huge soft spot for pups herself. So much so that it was part of her wedding theme and it was ridiculously cute!!
Happy island tunes played while guests enjoyed a drink with their feet warm in the sand. The sun just setting and the ocean lapping behind us. How much better can it get… really? So crazy that I get to experience moments like these time and time again. Makes me beyond happy, keeps me in awe.
The reception was set up poolside under the stars and palms. Em + Matt sat among their most treasured people, enjoyed a hilarious speech by their two groomsmen who had everyone roaring with homage to matts poultry lovin’ and their MC’s rendition of the ‘Newlywed Game’ asking the guests if they could guess what Emily’s most hated expression was that Matt liked to use so fondly. …. “Men are talking” was the result to which we first heard a “oh no he didn’t” from all the ladies and then roaring laughter as we all gave in to just how funny it truly is. Luckily for Rob though – he has not adopted this expression. – I guess he is smarter than he looks. ;)
In summation… what a lovely day. It really never gets old, capturing love and creating new friends along the way. Big hugs. XOXO – r+m
